Baluch rugs are hand-woven by nomadic Baluchi tribes in the eastern part of Iran. Most of them come from the province Sistan and Baluchistan on the south east border. A lot of tribal Baluch rugs, animal trappings and tent furnishings also come out of Khorassan near the boarder to Afghanistan, and are marketed in Mashad. The favorite colors of Baluch carpets are a rich burgundy with some very dark navy blue and accents of beige. Beluchis often have either an overall pattern like a tree-of-life or a prayer rug design. Frequently they show a pattern of repeated and highly stylized camel feet. Most of the Beluchi rugs rugs are small in size, double wefted, asymmetrical, and in typical tribal design, sometimes with the use of goat hair.
