Birjand is a small city in Iran's Khorasan province. Birjand rugs employ very elegant patterns, with similar characteristics like an Herati or Qum. You'll often find a round central medallion sitting in an open field of small fish. The repeated borders of many Birjand carpets resemble those of the Mahi, though the Birjand's design is more curvilinear. Popular color schemes are light reds, beige and navy blue. The Birjand weavers use the persian knot, the rugs come in different sizes, but the majority of them are rather large. |
