Mahal / Mahallat is located near Arak in west-central Iran. Rugs from Mahal often have the famous all-over pattern called Herati design. Other Mahal carpets show clear Kurdish and Turkish tribal rug influences. Last not least you can find Mahal rugs with design similar to those produced in the Ziegler workshops in Arak. Zeigler opened its persian branch in 1883 and introduced european style elements to the oriental rug weaving industry. It's worth to mention that Mahals are sometimes marketed as Ferraghans (Feraghan, Farahan) or Mushkabad rugs.
