Mashhad (Meshad) is the capital of the Khorasan province in north-eastern Iran and one of the oldest centers of the Persian carpet weaving industry. It is also seen the most holy city of Iran, because of the shrine of Imam Reza who is located there. Masshhad rugs use some of the best wool around and have elegant designs like medallions on busy floral fields. You will find also Kashan or Herati patterns. Mashhad carpets are sometimes marketed as Khorasan rugs.
