Sanandaj (Sannadaj, Sanandag) is the modern name of Senneh (also Senna, Sennah, Sannah, Sana), the capital of the Kurdistan province in western Iran. From Senneh produces (few) city type rugs and (mostly) Kurdish tribal rugs of high quality. The weavers in Senneh actually prefer the Turkish knot, despite the asymmetrical Persian knot, who is also known as Senneh knot, was named after this city. Senneh rugs often have diamond medallions and geometric patterns. Influences of Bidjar carpets can also be noted. Dominating colors are reds, navy, brown and beige for the background, combined with lighter motif colors, such as yellow or green. |
